2024 Recipient

Marquis Conway

Our 2024 scholarship recipient is Marquis Conway.  He was awarded $1,000.  Marquis is from Sacramento, CA but currently lives in Texas with his mother and younger brother. Marquis is a very determined and responsible young man who helped care for his baby brother after school each day, while his mother worked to provide for their family.  He graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA and is currently a Freshman at Texas Southern University pursuing a degree in Business.

Jordyn Diew

Jordyn Diew graduated from the Oakland School of the Performing Arts in June with a 3.76 GPA. She lives with her mother and is a vocalist and plays several musical instruments. She is currently enrolled at the University of Southern California and is majoring in Music. Jordyn was awarded $500.

Kursten Walden

Kursten Walden graduated from the Sacramento Academic & Vocational Academy in June with a 3.79 GPA. She lives with her mother and younger sister and is currently enrolled at the University of San Francisco and is majoring in Biology. Her long-term goal is to become a Physician’s Assistant. Kursten was awarded $500.

Amir Wesley

Amir Wesley graduated from Sheldon High School and is currently a Sophomore at San Jose State. He has a GPA of 3.1. Amir lost his father in his first year of high school, which affected him deeply. Still, he was able to re-focus and persevere in his studies and in his senior year he was named Captain of the Track Team. Amir’s long-term goal is to be an Aero Space Engineer. He was awarded $1200

2022 Recipient

Carmesha Grayson

The 2022 scholarship recipient is Carmesha Grayson. She was awarded $1,000. This is Carmesha’s second time receiving the Walter F. Burnett, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. She is now a student at CSUS, pursuing a career in Education. We know from her letters of reference that she will be an excellent teacher. Her love for children, compassion, and love of learning will benefit every student who is blessed to have her as their teacher. In addition to being a full-time student, she also works part-time and is active in her local church.
