2019 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser
The 2019 Run/Walk Fundraiser was a success! This marked the 10th Anniversary of the Walter F. Burnett Jr. Scholarship, which is bittersweet, but we know that Walter would be so proud. We are thankful that the scholarship is thriving!
This year we had more than 60 participants and we received donations from many individuals who could not make it to the event. Thank you!
We want to thank Fleet Feet Sacramento for including us in their newsletter and thank you to our church family, co-workers, friends, and family members of the surrounding community for participating in the event. And of course, we could not have done it without our volunteers who showed up early that morning to help us set up and register participants.
Your support helps us to give scholarships to our target group--- high school seniors and current college students from single parent, foster parent, grandparent, and legal guardian households. This year we were able to award scholarships to two students. Click here to learn more about the 2019 recipients.
2018 Run/Walk Fundraiser
The 2018 Run/Walk Fundraiser was a success! Thank you to all who supported us through your donations, walking, and/or volunteering. We would also like to thank Fleet Feet, Sacramento for including this run on their calendar. We had 77 participants and everyone had a wonderful time filled with comradery!
We are excited to have made new friends who believe in our calling of providing scholarships to students from a single parent, foster parent, grandparent or guardian household. It is amazing what happens when people are brought together for a good cause! We have been blessed to provide a scholarship each year since 2010. We couldn't do it without you! 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!
2016 Zumbathon (R)
This year the Walter F. Burnett Jr. Memorial Scholarship held a Zumbathon (R) Fundraiser at the Dr. Ephraim Williams Family Life Center on Saturday, September 10, 2016. The event was fun for all! There were 68 registered participants and funds were also raised through raffle tickets and donations. We were very honored by the support we received from everyone who participated, volunteered their time and talents, donated raffle prizes, helped to sell tickets, and for our wonderful ZIN Instructors who worked to help make the event fun, a great workout, and a success!

2015 Run/Walk Fundraiser
On Saturday, July 11, 2015 the Walter F. Burnett, Jr. Memorial Scholarship had its Inaugural Run/Walk 5K Fundraiser. It was a blessing beyond anything we could have imagined. There were 108 registered participants, a few who registered on-site. We received many wonderful comments from everyone who participated and everyone there was excited and expressed an interest in being involved again next year. We could not have accomplished any of this without the Lord’s blessing.
The weather for this event was perfect and William Land Park was cool and shady in the month of July. Also, we had some very special volunteers, who included some dear friends, members of our church family, and student volunteers from Christian Brothers High School. These 15 volunteers helped with set-up and take down, registration and packet distribution, securing the entrance gates, stationed along the route to make sure that everyone was safe and knew which path to take, and some passed out refreshment and cheered and encouraged people as they ran or walked by, and tracking runners at finish line. The event was untimed and this made for a stress free and enjoyable morning for everyone.
It was a family event so that participants from age 5 years old and above could register. Although the event was untimed, we did recognize some very fast runners who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd and we had a small token of appreciation for the person who was the first to register for the event this year.
My family and I are very appreciative to all those who came out to participate, made a donation, collected pledges, volunteered your time, and prayed for us. To all the special people who are members of TFL (Totally Fit Life at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church) you truly went above and beyond. This 5K Run/Walk would not have been as successful without you!
The Walter F. Burnett, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is elated to have these funds to help us to continue to provide scholarships to some very deserving high school seniors and college students. We have been awarding scholarships for the past six (6) years, but this was our first major fundraiser.
Thank you, everyone for your support! And to God be the Glory!
